The UFP at the AScUS (Un)Conference: Main Session
As one of the eight sessions in the main event, Actionable Science for Urban Sustainability (AScUS) Unconference, (from 3-5 June 2020.) The Urban Footprints Project (UFP) explored the topic carved out in our pre-conference session, “Participatory Governance Towards Urban Sustainability – Challenges and Opportunities in Different Regulatory Settings”.
Seeing that the participants had varied backgrounds and with the intention of mining information on systemic challenges from the experiences of the participants in their respective fields, the goals of the session were the following:
- Sensitize for and explore different regulatory settings and their influence on urban sustainability governance
- Carve out opportunities and challenges in the different systems, e.g. to actively use data and models of the ISIE community
- Identify the role of participation in the design and implementation of strategic urban sustainability plans to overcome key system-specific challenges
The focus was kept on the design and implementation of strategic urban sustainability plans (e.g. climate action plan, master plan, SDG implementation plan). All of which would help develop recommendations on how (accountable) urban sustainability governance can be strengthened, tailored to different regulatory settings
The documentation of the results for the session can be found here.
